An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Merry February 15th

(Pro 15:15 KJV)  All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

How do we develop a “cheerful” (2896) “heart” (3820)?  There are a lot of clues in this chapter of Proverbs but let me suggest that the most essential step is to acknowledge that it can be done.  So often we get bogged down in the frustrations and roadblocks of life that we don’t lift our eyes up and get the big view.  We need to believe that our outlook can improve.

I am not talking self-esteem or positive thinking.  I am talking awareness and trust.  I am talking about finding reasons to believe that there is hope.  More specific, I am saying there is a Reason to believe and hope.  I don’t now about you but I need a constant reminder about this.  That is one reason I study, pray and write this daily.  I hope it stirs others up.  It must stir me up.

So?  What do you say when people say, “How’s it going?”  Do you answer with the pat, “Fine.”  You can do better than that.  Try, “Marvelous!”  It gets you a lot of strange looks if nothing else.

Even someone who's grumping in the wilderness has to agree with you. Doing it - now that may be another matter. ;-)

Most of the time our response is automatic. I make it a game if nothing else.

Grace and peace.
