An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Baby Steps First

(Pro 4:7 KJV)  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

As I read this chapter this month verse seven jumped out at me.  It often catches my attention because of the simplistic advice.  It is so simple and so obvious.  It is like telling someone, “The way to lose weight is to eat less.”  When I read this verse I want to add modern playwright notes.  I want to stop between the first and second phrases and insert, “drum role.”

The hard part in any venture is to get started.  When I have yard work to do the hardest part is getting out of the chair.  I have had a handle that my wife gave me months ago.  It needed to be glued back on the spoon.  I bought the glue.  I moved the parts from place to place on my desk.  I would look at it and say, “I need to do that.”  I would move on.  Finally, yesterday I picked up the materials and did the job.  It only took about two minutes.

So?  Do you want to grow in the Lord and demonstrate spiritual maturity?  Get started.  If it took God six days to create the world my guess is it won’t happen over night for you.
