An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Doing Justice

(Pro 21:15 KJV)  It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

Are we responsible to “do” (for the “execution” (6213a) of NASB) “justice” (4941)?  Or does this mean that we rejoice when we see God administering justice?  Or does it mean both?

I am a both/and kind of guy.  So often that gives richer understanding than either/or.  The word used for “to do” (execution NASB) (6213a) is a very simple and common word.  It is translated many ways but the most common are derivatives of the verbs “do” and “make.”  When I say common I am talking, between them, in the 1,000 range.

We are to be instruments of justice.  As a side note you need to recognize this is not “social justice.”  That is not a Biblical term.  It is a political term.  Justice is rooted in the holiness of God.  We are to be doing it as a part of our daily lives.

So?  Go forth and do justice.  Make the world a better place because you have walked through it.
