An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Stop Dialing 911

(Proverbs 19:19 KJV)  A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

Are you one of those people who always needs to be rescued?  Do you always rely on others to finish what you have started?  Do you leave the water running and need others to turn it off?  Let me meddle some more.  Are you always losing your keys?  Do you always need to borrow a pen?  Are you always short at the end of the month?

This verse is addressed to the person rescuing you.  They are being told to back off and let you grow up.  Maybe it is time to take the bull by the horns and begin to help them let you mature.

I find that I need to stop blaming others for my shortcomings.  I need to accept responsibility for my actions or lack of action.  It is much easier to lay it at their feet but Jesus wants me to lay it at His feet and begin to grow in the process.

So?  Anger isn’t the only weakness of character we need to deal with.  Open your eyes.  Ask God to show you and lead you to victory.  Then you can begin to help others and they can move forward too.

You're right; people are generally about as helpless as they're encouraged to be.

That is why I believe the church has been more effective in helping the needy. When the church works as it should it knows what is real need and what is just demanding handouts. Government usually is about buying votes and preserving well paid jobs for social workers.

Grace and peace.
