An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

No Rain Checks

(Proverbs 9:3 KJV)  She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

Wisdom has not only prepared a place to be but is planning a feast to go along with it.  She has “sent” (7971) the invitations.

I see a parallel here to a parable Jesus told.  One telling begins this way,
(Luke 14:16-17 KJV)  Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:  And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
In each telling there are many people who are invited who simply send their regrets.  They are too busy to come.

Wisdom runs into the same response.  She has prepared a spiritual and intellectual feast.  All the courses are laid out ready to be consumed and she bids us come.  She sends special invitations to partake.  The invitations are personally carried.

So, did you get one?  How have you responded?  In the parables the host did not give rain-checks.  Those who made excuses were rejected.  Make sure that you are giving God a daily “yes.”
