An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Bed Spreads Are a Coverup

(Proverbs 7:16 KJV)  I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

American have been seduced with material wealth.  We are impressed with the “coverings” (4765).  Another way is to say we are more impressed with smoke than with substance.  In the last election we were offered “hope and change.”  Someone did some research and pointed out that there was nothing new about this.  Almost every election has politicians offering the words “hope” and “change.”  The problem is that the object of hope is never explained and the changes are never detailed.

The world makes the same offers but keep in mind they are only tools of seduction.  We need to learn to look underneath, to look for the truth or lie that is underneath.  Remember that the fashions that look so good on the slender, starved, air-brushed model in the advertisement will not look the same over your love handles.

So?  One size fits all doesn’t work in clothes.  One truth fits all does work for eternity.  Keep your eyes open, your mind in gear and your soul in touch with Jesus.

Thank you. It is a good thing that the Bible is such a good thing to work with.

Grace and peace.
