An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Legal Blessing

Proverbs 29:18 (BES) There shall be no interpreter to a sinful nation: but he that observes the law is blessed.

I continue to watch for statements about the law saving us.  So far nothing.  What I do see are things like this.  There is a promise, but the promise is not here given in terms of eternal salvation or forgiveness of sins.  What it’s saying is that if we follow the standards that God has laid out that our life will be much happier or blessed.

The law is a blessing.  I was just reading in II Timothy, where Paul was dealing with this issue.  The idea is that God’s standards and obedience to them lines life up and a way in which it can flow bringing joy instead of distress.  The law is given for the land, it is given to mold a bunch of pagan saturated, ignorant barbarians into the people of God.  Picture trying to take a bunch of pesky Jews, who had been under the influence for 400 years of the Egyptian value system.  There would be nothing left of God's standards.  Moses had to take them, lay down the law, hit them upside the head on a regular basis, and hope that they would eventually grow into what God wanted them to be.

So?  Keep in mind that the guard rails are there to keep you from going into the ditch.  The center divider is there to keep you from having a head on collision.  Neither one of those determine your destiny.  Love the law for what it was designed.
