Proverbs 23:30 (BES) Are not those of them that stay long at wine? are not those of them that haunt the places where banquets are? Be not drunk with wine; but converse with just men, and converse with them openly.
The second half of this verse in the LXX is not in the Hebrew. Why not? It is possible that it was in one Hebrew manuscript. It is also possible that this is one of those places where we have a reader writing a comment in the margin and the next time it was copied some scribe added it. This kind of situation is why we compare translations and use our brain.
Does the last sentence make sense? It does to me. Is it scripture? I would doubt it. Does it trouble me? No. There is a reason why believers have tended to go with the Hebrew text.
So? Read. Compare. Think. Pray. Let the Holy Spirit guide your worship.

An Idea Borrowed
Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.
