An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Aware of Influence

Psalms 69:6 (KJV) Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

(Proverbs 20 also read)

If I was writing a sermon or a Bible commentary I would need to bring the entire Psalm into consideration because it involves messianic prophecy.  Since I am doing a devotional reading I will take the verse out of context.  What did it say to me today?

I see here a plea that my actions have the potential to turn others away from seeking God’s face.  It is a concern in my daily life.  It was a fear I had when I was raising my children.  What kind of example am I giving to people about what it means to serve God?

So?  This is always a good prayer to have.  Make it a prayer.

As I look back I tend to see the negative effects I have had. I am not sure if I am being honest or am just depressed

Probably both. The honesty is seeing the negative, fine. The depression is not seeing the positive. Add the wisdom of knowing that you have touched many lives that you will never know about until eternity.
