An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Live by Extension

(Pro 14:21 KJV)  He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

Everywhere we look we see evidence of what a Godly life should be like.  Here we are told to be “gracious” (2603a).  The KJV has “mercy”.  To those who speak Hebrew this would call to mind the verse that mentions Noah finding grace.  The words are related just like they are in English.  They also seem to relate to the character of God.

We are to live Godly lives.  That means being like Jesus in our daily acts.  That means being gracious to those society rejects.  Keep in mind that God has every reason to reject us and yet He extends His favor.

So?  Consider it an extension of the Golden Rule.  We are not to treat people as they deserve but as God expects.
