An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Truth That Unstole Christmas

(Pro 23:23 KJV) Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Christmas time is another good time to stop and consider what is “truth” (571), what is well meaning tradition and what is outright fraud.  The secularization we are watching is all about smothering the truth that created the celebration.  Christmas is about the Incarnation.  It is the day that God became man.  He was born in a manger so that He could die on a cross and be resurrected from a tomb.  That is the truth.  That is what we should “buy” (7069) into.

That doesn’t mean we have to throw out the fun stuff that has become traditional.  Much of it is like the rum in rum balls.  A little bit adds flavor and I am told the alcohol cooks out.  Too much and it can be destructive.  Tradition has its place but does not trump truth.

So?  Don’t let the attempts to remove the divine from Christmas spoil the celebration.  Don’t let the celebration eclipse the worship.  Invest your day and season in truth.
