An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Marriage Woes

(Pro 30:23 KJV) For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

This verse gives us a clue to why some marriages are full of misery.  If you start with the NASB who describes the woman as “unloved” (8130) you see one scenario.  Picture a woman who has never been loved.  She may have had no father or a father who failed in every important way.  She may have never been Daddy’s Princess.  It is possible that even her mother rejected her.  She is a walking time bomb if she manages to get married.

Take it a step further as the KJV has “odious”.  This translation says the woman in question is really impossible to be around.  The cause may have been she was unloved as a child.  The cause could be a refusal to acknowledge sin in her life.  Regardless, she is destined to make the life of her husband and children miserable.

And of course the lesson goes the other way.  There are men who are odious too.

So?  There is not much you can do about someone’s past or present.  You can be lifting them up in prayer because God has the ability to remake the odious if they are willing to be remade.
