An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pure Test

(Pro 30:5 KJV) Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

If you compare the KJV and NASB you see that one uses “pure” (6884) and the other says “tested”.  A straight meaning might be refined or smelted.  You can see how each could be used.  We have a little different perspective than they did in Solomon’s time.  We have several thousand years to see the results of that testing and refining.  We have the vantage point of seeing prophecy fulfilled.  We know of the ultimate Word, Jesus Himself, who came and lived among us.  For believers it has stood the test of time.

You can still get a copy of Plato’s works in a good book store.  You can download all kinds of ancient works from Project Gutenberg.  A lot of the old stuff has survived but only the Word of God can be found in almost every home in America.  It has withstood the test of time.

So?  Why not get acquainted with something that works?  One of the great refinements is the number of translations that range from very loose paraphrase to hard core word for word.  Find the one that allows God to speak to you.
