An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pitfalls and Booby Traps

(Pro 26:2 KJV) As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

Proverbs is about applied wisdom.  It is about the benefits of obeying God’s law.  It deals with how we are to think and act.  It lays the foundations for both.  One of the repeated thoughts is that God blesses those who walk on the Highway of Holiness.  The corollary to that is that those who stray are cursed.

One of the blessed truths that we often overlook is that living the righteous life shields us from many of the curses of life.  Sometimes that shield is total protection.  I must admit that I do not worry about HIV personally.  If you live a chaste life, not to worry.  Sometimes the protection is a matter of principle and balance.  The Bible does not speak of chocolate, coffee or cigarettes but I have a feeling that a little thinking and a bit of moderation will keep the problems associated with them away from your door.

So?  Life is full of pitfalls and booby traps.  If we live right many of them will never visit our doorstep.
