An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Eye Development

(Pro 28:22 KJV) He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

The New Testament mentions a spiritual gift called discernment.  Its primary function is to have a sensitivity to the difference between good and evil.  Like most gifts, there is a level of spiritual skill that can be developed or practiced.  For instance some people have the gift of giving.  All believers are expected to be stewards.  Some are evangelists, all are to be witnesses.  Often the spiritual gift develops as we cultivate the gifts of the Spirit.

Some people who resist the leadership of the Holy Spirit develop what is here called an “evil” (7451a) “eye” (5869).  I guess it might be considered just the opposite of the gift of discernment.  This person seeks out and recognizes evil.  It is the result of many choices.

So?  Little bits add up to major bits.  If we work on the little things then the big things will often take care of themselves.
