An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Unhidden Treasure

(Pro 27:5 KJV) Open rebuke is better than secret love.

As I was thinking about the contrast between “open” (1540) and “secret” (concealed NASB) (5641) I thought back to my basic training in the army.  We were being instructed about how to hide in plain sight in a combat situation.  It was night time and we were facing an open field.  They shot off a flair and told us to look carefully.  The field looked empty.  Then they shot another flare and the field was full of soldiers.  What was the difference?  During the second flare they were moving and waving their arms.  They were essentially invisible when they did not move.

The same is true of our responsibility to love.  It is not something that can be hidden and still be effective.  Love is expressed and applied.  It is not always a matter of what we say but it is always a matter of what we do.

So?  Love is lived out in daily activities whether it is patience or forgiveness.  It is active.
