An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Ponder

(Proverbs 5:6 KJV)  Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

We are giving a backhand reminder to “ponder” (6424) where we are going in “life” (2425b,NASB;2416,KJV).  The God-rejecter being described here does not do it.  If you are a believer in Jesus you must.

Pondering means to weigh and that was done on a balance beam scale of the day.  Think about how you would concentrate if you were weighing out an ingredient in a recipe that had to be right.  I am that way with cayenne in my chili.  A little bit enhances the flavor.  Too much ruins it for me.  That is the picture here.  We are to live in thoughtful consideration of the “path” (734) we walk.

So?  This is not a screaming fear tactic.  This is a quiet reminder to quietly think about the quiet parts of our life that end up shouting if we get them wrong.
