An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Narcoleptic?

(Proverbs 24:33 KJV)  Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

(My Bible study software is working again so for those who notice the italics will be automatic again.)

Obviously this is not talking about  “sleep” (8142) being bad.  Sleep is a requirement of life.  This deals with sleeping when there is work to be done or sleeping to avoid a task.

We need to put the entire verse together to get the idea.  Actually you need to go to the next verse.  Not looking any further is one of the symptoms of this problem.  We find an answer that fits our needs and we don’t look any further.  Intellectually we go to sleep.  We can survive that.  If you don’t invent a better mousetrap because you took a nap, it probably won’t matter to you, even if it does to the mouse.

Spiritually it could be a disaster.  If God is speaking to you and you hide behind a nap then the time to respond may pass.  Hopefully it is not an eternal mistake.

So?  Is God trying to get your attention?  It could be someone in need.  It could be you are the one in need.
