An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

A Double Harvest

(Proverbs 8:19 KJV) My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

We have two different products offered by Wisdom, “fruit” (6529) and “revenue” (yield NASB) (8393).  While I think that this is a literary device of repetition with variation and is not a statement of doctrine, I want to act like they are preaching points.  They show two ways in which wisdom rewards believers.

Fruit is a natural product.  It is produced by a healthy tree.  An apple tree that is functioning normally will produce apples.  Unless there is some outside influence that stops pollination and such, apples show up and grow to usefulness.  It is demonstrated by the fruit of the Spirit.

Yields make me think of return on investment.  A farmer’s field produces a yield of wheat or barley.  It is purely a result of the seed planted.

One comes built in.  One is produced by conscientious attention to detail.  God works in us both ways.  The Holy Spirit gets things going and growing.  That is produced in our daily lives.  At the same time He expects us to use our minds and energy seeking more truth and wisdom.

So?  I hope you enjoy a double reward today.  Living in the Spirit will change your responses.  Conscious study will help you understand your world.  Happy Harvest.
