An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Choose Your Mouth

(Proverbs 10:11 KJV) The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

I like the idea of being a “well” (fountain NASB) (4726) of “life” (2425b).  I like the idea that what I say can bring healing and health to others.  I wish I could claim that it was because I am sensitive and talented.  Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way.  Left to myself I am nothing but vinegar on baking soda.  Everything I touch fizzes up and flows away.

The only hope of being different comes from being righteous and that is something I can’t do.  That is the bad news but the good news of the day is that through the blood of Jesus and the in-filling of the Holy Spirit it can happen.  In fact it is promised and assumed.  Proverbs would not talk about the righteous so often if they did not exist.  If they could exist in his day then after Calvary and Pentecost the condition is even more in reach.

So?  Don’t settle for a mouth that conceals violence.  Take the road of repentance and obedience that make it possible to be an instrument of life.
