An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Set Your Alarm

(Proverbs 6:9 KJV)  How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

Face it.  If it is easy for you to get up in the morning it probably means you are getting old.  At least that is the case in my life.  I remember as a teen still being in bed on Saturday afternoon.  It was a natural after a late night.  Now my aches and pains and bladder make this kind of sloth impossible.  So I get up.

This verse was probably written to the young.  The next verse sounds more like it is for old people who like to take naps.  Either way the warning is about the seduction of “sleep” (8142) which can dull our senses and our enthusiasm about life.

So?  Get the rest you need but be careful not to do so at the expense of duties and responsibilities.
