An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

A Dumb Blessing

(Proverbs 31:8 KJV)  Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

You may be different but I find I “open” (6605) my “mouth” (6310) many times when I shouldn’t.  Welcome to the human race.  This verse refers to the opposite problem.  Too often we do not speak up when we should.

There are many times we should speak up in our lives and we remain silent.  We become the “dumb” (483) spoken of here.  In the pre-politically correct days that meant someone who could not speak.  Often we seem to lose this ability when it involves a sensitive cultural or moral issue such as homosexuality or welfare.  That is not the point here.

This is about becoming advocates for people who are not able to speak up for themselves.  This could be on the street when someone is being insulted.  It could be in private with someone you know is struggling with an issue or relationship.  The point is that since God has reached out and touched us, we should be sharing the blessing of wisdom and insight.

So?  Watch for a chance to give an encouraging word or be an advocate of someone who is really unable to do it for themselves.  Be a blessing.
