An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Proof Texting

(Proverbs 21:30 KJV)  There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

What a great place to use the Bible to prove whatever you want.  All you need to do to reinforce a nihilistic view of life is to quote the first part of this verse in isolation.  You can even quote the entire verse if you ignore the rest of the Bible.  The result is that there is no hope, so why try.

I would say that is obviously not what this teaches but I have been around so many people who can read clear text and totally miss the point.  We have people sitting on the Supreme Court who would fit into that category.  If you are a parent, you have had young children who are the same.  The point is that nothing is wise or informed that goes against God Himself.

So?  Save your jokes for your friends and your blog.  Get serious when you are in the presence of Almighty God, which is all the time.
