An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Forsaken Friends

(Proverbs 27:10 KJV)  Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

Friendship.  How do you define it?  When does someone cross the line from being an acquaintance to being a friend?  These are questions I have trouble answering.  I feel at times that I “forsake” (5800a) people who were once “friends” (7453).

I have one friend, going through a hard time, who told me not to come by any more.  How long do I respect that wish?  I have another that has gradually drifted away because we don’t have much in common any more.  I am an introvert.  I don’t need to be with people.  This is telling me that I need to be what I am called to be, not what I feel like.  I hate phones.  I need to make calls in spite of that.  There is a whole world of action I need to take.

So?  Check to see if it is an issue for you.  Someone might need you.

To mde, friends are someone that you get together with because you enjoy their company. It may be for sports, cards, bowling, or just chewing the fat, but you get together. By that standard, I have no friends, though I'm on friendly terms with dozens of people. There are folks who would be willing that I like, but there are "circumstances" that prevent it. So be it.

That makes me think of the crack by one of the Marx brothers about not wanting to be a part of a club that would accept someone like me.

As long as I'm your friend Pumice. But if you want to keep giving people zeros on test, terms can change.

The world of Pumice does not include tests or zero grades. I expect you to grade yourself. Of course you need to understand the God gives the final grade, not a blogger.

I just read about your grandfather so it is not time for wise cracks.
