An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Key to Fear

(Proverbs 10:27 KJV)  The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

My brother was good at building things.  He was at home with tools, but he tended to forget to pay attention.  One day he picked up his drill and began to change the drill bit.  This used to involve a tool called a chuck key.  It was a little device that you put in the part that holds the drill and spins. It loosens and clamps the drill bit into place.  A small, inoffensive piece of very hard metal.  Since he was in a hurry he did not unplug the drill.  No one unplugs the drill.  I found out why it is recommended.  Somehow he activated the drill while the bit was in the chuck.  The chuck spun quickly and caught his finger as he was working.  It was very bloody.  Fortunately it was a minor injury.

It put the fear of the drill in me.

What does it take to put the fear of the Lord in us?  Keep in mind that the restraints God puts on us are not for His protection.

So?  Prolong your days.  Fear the Lord.  Pay attention.  There are bigger problems in life than chuck keys.
