An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Sin Balance

(Proverbs 11:1 KJV)  A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

Are there levels of sin?  Do some offenses against God generate a greater wrath?  I think so.  One of the words that keeps coming up is “abomination” (8441).  Since we are saved by grace and whether you are Arminian or Calvinist that grace comes from God we tend to lump sin in one big category.  That is not the witness of the word.

If you study the law you see different levels of restitution, punishment and sacrifice, depending on the type of sin and the attitude of the sinner.  While sin is sin God seems to be more hostile toward an adulterer than toward a man who steals because his family is hungry.

So?  Don’t take any sin lightly.  We are offered forgiveness, restoration and power.  We are given the strength to resist, a means of escape and ultimately cleansing when we fail.  Take advantage of all that is offered.
