An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Answers without a Clue

(Proverbs 21:30 KJV)  There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

It may be apocryphal or fictional but one of the quotes attributed to Abraham Lincoln was, “I am not concerned with God being on my side as much as my being on God’s side.”  In addition to being apocryphal it is a paraphrase, but you get the point.

When you go “against” (5048) the Lord you throw a lot of things under the bus.  You discard “wisdom” (2451), “understanding” (8394) and “counsel” (6098).  These are all big concerns of Proverbs with frequent references.  What Solomon is trying to do is get us to recognize the real thing.  Just as you cannot buy a real Rolex on a street corner for ten dollars, you cannot find real wisdom ignoring contact with the living God.  It is like trying to use your cell phone in the middle of the mountains.

So?  Don’t settle for comfortable and undemanding substitutes.  Just because someone claims to have the answers doesn’t mean they have a clue.
