An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Natural Is Not Automatic

(Proverbs 13:2 KJV)  A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Here we have the phrase “fruit” (6529) of the mouth (6310).”  This is talking about the natural results that are brought forth in season.  Based on the contrast in the second part and the pattern in the surrounding verses it is assumed that this is the talk of the righteous and wise.

There is another phrase you might be familiar with:  “The fruit of the Spirit.”  This talks about the natural produce of a life controlled by the presence of God.
(Galatians 5:22-3 KJV)  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
One will effect the other.  The second is necessary for the first.

So?  By natural we don’t mean it will happen in nature.  We don’t mean you can produce this fruit by your own effort.  You need the Holy Spirit.  Seek Him.  Let Him change you.
