An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Hidden Treasure

(Proverbs 2:1 KJV)  My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

The KJV says we are to “hide” (6845) God’s commandments.  This is a different side of the word that is brought out from the modern translations.  We tend to think of hiding as putting away so that no one know we have it.  When my wife buys a certain type of ice cream she laughs about how she hides it.  She says all she has to do is put it on a low shelf because I will never bend over to look.  But the idea is to keep it from my view.

The idea here is to hide it so we can savor, enjoy and contemplate.  It is more the idea of putting old family pictures in a place where you can enjoy them without the sunlight dimming the colors.  I hide a family picture in my wallet so that every time I open it, there they are.  No one sees it but me and I see it frequently.

So?  Put the teachings of God in a secure place, one that you visit regularly.  Find ways to visit and get acquainted.
