An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Creative Ignorance

(Proverbs 1:17 KJV)  Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

Have you ever heard someone called “bird brain.”  It is intended as a put-down, but this verse seems to say that the wrong creature is being insulted.  You see, even a “bird” (1167/3671) is able to discern a trap when it is obvious.  It would seem that humans don’t have that ability.  The context of this verse is a description of the kind of evil people we are not to run with.  The point is that evil leads to frustration, depression and destruction.  This should be obvious, but some people are just “human brains.”

This could be part of the creative natures that God has given us.  We do not see everything in black and white.  Everything is not literal.  This makes it possible for us to rationalize.  We rise to the occasion.

So?  What is as plain as the nose on your face and you are not seeing it?  What kind of sand castles have you carefully built while you keep your back to the rising tide and ignore what is clear to people watching?  I have a few ideas for myself and pray that God will get me to face them.  I hope the same for you.

I've always heard that those who can lie to themselves don't have to lie to anyone else.

That is an aphorism that sounds so right yet I don't remember hearing it before.

Telling the truth is so central to all that goes on in society. The kids I work with will lie at the drop of a hat, or before the hat is dropped. It does not bode well for the future.

Grace and peace.
