An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Somethings Never Change

Proverbs 20:23 (KJV) Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

Recently in our Sunday school class, we were looking at Paul comparing faith and works.  Of course, being a traditional church, we spent most of our time badmouthing the law, and the conclusion to that often is that it really doesn’t matter whether we live moral lives as long as we have faith.  I know that’s a distortion, but that is the way I think people tend to look at it.  If we believe, then living according to the righteous commands of God is optional.

I think this verse is a reminder.  We are saved by grace.  The avenue that God uses to determine whom He extends that grace to is faith.  But don’t forget He is still a moral God.  He is still a holy God.  He is still a righteous God.  That has not gone away.  He saves us through His grace and because of His love.  At the same time, there are still things which are an abomination to Him.

So?  Rejoice in His grace and His willingness to forgive.  As you bask in that joy make a commitment to do everything you can so that there will be less that He will have to forgive in the future.
