Proverbs 30:8 (KJV) Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
As we come to the close of the year, it’s always a good idea to stop and think about our priorities for the next 12 months. What would we like to see in our daily life? Every time I read this chapter, this verse stands out to me. It’s a good place to start.
Vanity and lies are things to be avoided. I think it’s a good insight that Solomon has here in asking God to remove these things from us. Up to a point we can practice personal discipline, but there comes something a little deeper that needs to be removed and only God can do that.
I’m not sure how many of us can sincerely pray the second request. Who wants to be mediocre? Who wants to have just enough? If you keep reading, you’ll notice that the emphasis here is not on the actual amount put on the attitude that goes along with it.
So? Every day is a day to think about our priorities and what we would like to see in our future. Make this one of those days.
