An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Lifelong Learning

Proverbs 16:22 (KJV) Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

The thought of going back to school terrifies me.  Going back as a teacher creates nightmares.  Most of the nightmares I have put me in a classroom with all of the fears that are involved and being in a situation like that.  The idea of having to go and sit as a student causes revulsion in my life.  I have listened to enough fools over the years to know that my patience does not extend anymore to them.

That being said, I think that one of the things that we need to accept as we get older is the importance of continuing to learn and to seek truth.  As we age, one of the things that we get concerned about is dementia and a decrease in our mental abilities.  I am coming to the conclusion that one of the things that can at least hold that at bay a little bit, or slow it down, is to keep our minds active.  Not sure that’s what Solomon was talking about here, but if you put together understanding and instruction and the fact that the two work together to form a wellspring of life, make your own conclusions.

So?  Keep reading for truth.  Keep seeking great thoughts.  Keep listening to what the Holy Spirit is whispering.   Let it be a wellspring within you.
