An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

You Are What You Hear

Proverbs 19:27 (KJV) Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

I first read this in the NASB and noticed that when I compared what I had read to the KJV there was a real difference in what was being said.  One seems to say if we cease listening to instruction, then we will err.  The other says that listening to the wrong instruction will cause us to err, and we should stop.

I’m not a Hebrew scholar.  So I can’t get into the intricacies.  What I did was I went to the listing of the words and just read them off in order and the older translation is much more accurate than the new one.

So?  If you find that people you were listening to are edging you away from the truth then it’s time to stop listening.  The same could be said about what we read.  Seek truth.  Don’t allow your mind to be watered down with fantasy and error.
