Proverbs 24:12 (KJV) If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
Do you have any idea how much people hate that last phrase used here by David in the book of Proverbs, which is in the Bible. That little phrase of “according to this works”, appears repeatedly, and you may not have noticed it, but the last words of Jesus are very similar.
Revelation 22:12 (KJV) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.But notice how Proverbs balances this. The key here is not that He watches what we do because it’s not the actual tasks themselves which are judged, but it is what is going on in your heart. This is where grace and mercy and the work of the Holy Spirit come in.
So? Yes, we are expected to live a certain way, but keep in mind that just living that certain way, although required, is not what saves us. It is the blood of Jesus and the work of God in our hearts.
