An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Turning the Tongue

(Pro 17:20 KJV)  He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

I always have questions about what kind of language is appropriate.  The translations here of “perverted” (2015) NASB and “perverse” KJV are minority choices.  The most common translation by far is “turned”.  It is used when God turned the Nile into blood.  It is also used to change your mind or your physical direction.

I am going to suggest today that this would refer to a tendency we have to talk different in front of different people.  Perhaps it would be the guy who is cussing up a storm until he realizes one of his listeners is a preacher and he says, “Oh, sorry Reverend.”  We might experience it when we get carried away and someone walks into the room who reminds us about that.

So?  You might as well talk as if the Lord were listening to everything you say, because He is.
