An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Survival Training

(Pro 18:10 KJV)  The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

When Alfred the Great was trying to unite England he faced the constant attacks by the various groups of what we would call Vikings.  He developed a system which could easily be traced back to this verse.  He began to build structures called “burhs”.  The word eventually became bergs or burgs.  They were fortifications which were designed for the local inhabitants to flee to, like our reference to the Lord as a tower.  They did not need to hold out for long periods of time.  All they had to do was protect the population while the invaders swept through.  Farmers could defend the walls against the quick moving Northmen.

God is that way to us.  He is a refuge, if we will use Him.

So?  It is not enough to flee.  You need to place of refuge to target.  God provides us with that if we let Him.  We live in unsettled times.  We need to plant our trust in Him.
