An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Listen Here, Bub

(Pro 15:31 KJV)  The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

I don’t like this.  I don’t want to listen.  I want to be the one giving directions, not the one being directed.  I want the power position or at least be able to ignore anything that makes me uncomfortable.

Listening does not only refer to your wife relating the honey-do list or your parents telling you what time to have the car back.  It also refers to how we read the Bible.  I know I can keep my eyes scanning the page without engaging the ears of my heart and mind.  It refers to the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to us when we don’t want to pay attention.

So?  Listening is a choice and a discipline.  It requires constant attention but is a life saving habit to develop.
