An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Don’t Roll Over

(Pro 20:13 KJV)  Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

I feel like this could be my verse.  Actually there are others that are more pointed about sloth and leisure, but this strikes a chord.  I am retired.  My natural inclination is to relax and get up when I feel like it.  You know how that goes, or maybe you don’t.  It means that I would get up just a little later each day until it was impossible to be a responsible adult.  Even now, realizing the problem, I set an alarm and the temptation is to roll over for just a few more winks.

I think that one of the reasons old age is a blessing is that if I lie in bed too long I start to get a lot of aches.  I guess you could call it God’s alarm clock.  Either way, slumber is something that needs to be controlled.

So?  I am not one who bounces out of bed each morning but I have found that if I get moving I start to wake up and I am ready to spend time in worship.  That is a requirement for the day.
