An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Foundations of Trust

(Pro 27:24 KJV) For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

“This too, shall pass”.  That is a bit of wisdom that we need to remember.  We also need to remember that is applies both ways.  Are you having a rough time?  This too, shall pass.  Are you flying high?  This too, shall pass.  The only eternal part of existence is God Himself.  One of His attributes is being immutable.  That means He does not change in His character and essence.  It does not mean He cannot respond to us as individuals and we know that Moses argued with Him.

The warning here involves putting our confidence in our material surroundings.  Political situations change.  We are seeing our liberty eroded.  The economy goes through cycles.  What was a source of prosperity can become an anchor on your soul.

So?  The reminder is here to encourage us to put our confidence in the eternal things, not the temporal.  Look at your coins.  They say, “In God we trust”.  As some wag said, all others will need to pay cash.
