An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Base of Destruction

(Pro 23:24 KJV) The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

Many people have speculated on what is wrong with out society.  What is the key factor for all the failure and destroyed lives around us?  The simple answer is sin.  For the moment let’s concede that and instead ask ourselves what manifestation of sin is the biggest contributor.  Again you would have many nominations for the award.  I think this verse points out a major factor:  The lack of “righteous” (6662) “fathers” (1).

I have read a number of references to research that finds the common denominator in such things as incarceration, abuse, alcoholism, and other types of antisocial behavior is the lack of a father in the home.  Just this week I read that in a list of known serial killers, only one was raised with a father in the home.

So?  As Christians we need to resist the inclination of society to glorify single parenthood and divorce.  Such things happen.  People trapped in them need our compassion and understanding.  That does not mean they are desirable or normal.  We need Biblical standards as a foundation.
