An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Regular

Pro 8:34 KJV) Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

The word “daily” (3117) [yom] jumps out at me.  Spiritual discipline and health are dependent on a regular diet.  It is just like our need for certain nutritional content in our food.  You can go one day with no fiber but if you make it a regular occurrence you cease to be regular.  Okay, not a good image for a spiritual lesson, but you get the point.  We see this in the teaching of Jesus,

(Luk 9:23 KJV) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
You find this call to discipleship in all the gospels and in various forms.  We are to take up our cross and follow Him.  I like this one better than the others because it includes the word “daily”.  I have gone periods of time when I have been on cruise-control.  I am not proud of it but it is true.  I did not drift off into a hell-bent lifestyle but that is only because of the grace of God.  I am much better off when I make it a daily routine to worship and contact my Savior.

So?  No big secret but it won’t happen unless it is a priority and planned for.
