An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pre Promise

(Pro 7:5 KJV) That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

Protection is a wonderful thing.  What we don’t like about the promise of this verse is the work up that comes from the previous four verses.  We see a list of things that are expected of us before we are delivered.  Look back over them.  We see a collection of actions on our part:  Keep, lay up, bind, write, say, call.  We are to be involved.

Yes, we are saved by grace.  Grace is active in our lives.  God is sovereign.  Keep in mind that in His sovereignty He has chosen to demand our buy in as a condition of that power.  It is called free will.

So?  We are not robots.  God is not a vending machine.  Jesus freely died on the cross so we could freely come to Him.  Glorious but also demanding.
