An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Brute Humility

(Proverbs 30:2 KJV)  Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

As true as this statement might be as a statement of humility, it cannot be literally true.  Anyone that lacking in mental worth would not be able to write the sentence.  I would call it an example of hyperbole.  For those not paying attention in junior high that is a literary devise of exaggeration to make a point.

Humility is important in life.  It keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously.  At times I get stressed because I have not changed the world.  When I was young and excited I thought God had called me to make a big difference.  He has kept reminding me that He is quite capable of running the universe without my fine qualities.  That is why we have verses like Micah 6:8,
(Micah 6:8 KJV)  He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
So?  I know I have referred to this verse frequently but not as frequently as I need to be reminded of it.  Compared to God our greatest scholar is not even ready to organize the card catalog.  I am far from the greatest scholar.  The miracle is that He still has a place for me in eternity.  Rejoice.  He has a place for you too.
