An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Igniter

(Proverbs 26:21 KJV)  As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

There is a general category of evil that is being dealt with here:  Gossip.  Gossip takes many forms from recreation to political disinformation campaigns.  It is possible to justify the work of deception when it comes to national security but in personal life such an excuse tends to be rationalization.

It is important that we honestly ask ourselves our motivation for the things we do.  This would apply even to our humor and our attempts to “help”.  In eternal issues our motivation and attitude are as important as our actions.  I might even say they are more important because God can see our hearts.  He knows if we broke something while giving it our best.  He also knows when we are just putting on a show and He is not impressed.

So?  Cut the gossip and agitation.  Examine the heart.
