An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Big Truths

(Proverbs 3:20 KJV)  By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

Keep in mind that the Bible is not a scientific text book.  It is not a “How to” book.  It is not a collection of bedtime stories.  It is not a philosophical tome.  Although it may have aspects of all those things it is basically the written words that God knew we would need to find Him and live as He wants us to live.  It is a book of the big truths and concepts.  Those big ideas are tied to the mundane in a way we can understand but everything is based on eternal principles.

Truth exists.  Untruth must also be possible.  I have heard several places that if I say the beach is to the right and you say it is straight ahead we can’t both be speaking truth.  One of us is in error.  Thus the nature of God cannot be as both the Bible and Koran describe Him if they are different.  He cannot be personal and impersonal as we see in the difference between Christianity and Buddhism.

God has passed the “knowledge” (1847) we need to us in the Bible.  How He “founded” (3245) the “earth” (776) (verse 19) we do not need to know in order to be faithful husbands and solid parents.  We are welcome to study science and seek for explanations but it isn’t required to walk in righteousness.

So?  Don’t be too impressed by the latest scientific theory.  If science is doing its job the next hypothesis will go in the opposite direction.  It is the nature of science.  God never changes and we can take that knowledge to the final test.

Too many people use the parts they don't understand as an excuse to avoid applying the parts that they understand all too well.

That is an insight that needs a post of its own.

Grace and peace.
