An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Our MRI

(Proverbs 28:9 KJV)  He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

While visiting in Japan we went to worship at the base chapel.  Overall it was one of the most satisfying services I have been to in a long time.  It was not polished and professional but it had the elements that made it possible for me to worship.  Hymns were sung.  Scripture was read.  The preaching was Bible based and called us to repent of our sin.

The chaplain used an illustration that went along with this verse and the law.  He talked about an experience he had with an MRI machine and how it examined every part of his inner body.  He pointed out that the MRI did not heal you, in fact too much of it could make you sick.  What it did was highlight what was wrong.  It occurred to me that the law is like that.
(Romans 7:7 KJV)  What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Like the MRI, the law of God helps us to know what our sickness is and how extensive it is.

So?  Don’t be afraid to look at the Old Testament and the Law.  If it does nothing else it can give you a reason to be thankful for the blood of Christ and the cleansing of the Holy Spirit.
