An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

A Lot of Learning

(Proverbs 1:14 KJV)  Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

This is the “lot” (1486) of chance.  There are times in life when you honestly don’t know which way to go.  You have studied, meditated and prayed.  You have no clear sense of direction and yet a decision is necessary.  God gives you permission to flip a coin, which is our modern version of casting lots.  It is not to be done casually or because we are lazy or because we don’t like what God is telling us to do.

This verse is a negative application.  It means when we take the chance by trusting people that clearly don’t have God’s will on their agenda.  Too often we get more involved than we should with people we are thrown together with.

So?  Be cautious of the commitments that come your way.  Trust in the wrong places can lead to disaster.
