An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Start and Finish

(Proverbs 15:13 KJV)  A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

As I look at this verse we are approaching Christmas.  As you read it, New Years Day has passed.  The greetings of the days encourage us to have a “joyful” (8056) “heart” (3820).  We call out Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  At the same time we don’t want to hear about all the problems.  As a Christian I think we understand what it takes to appear happy.  It starts on the inside.  If we have happy hearts then somehow it is going to get to our face.

Actually most people are satisfied with a “cheerful” (3190) “face” (6440).  That isn’t enough.  The joy of the Lord is something that goes all the way through.  It starts in a regenerated heart and mind and flows out into our actions, attitudes and priorities.

So?  It is a little late but Happy Hearted New Year to you.  God is on the throne.  Start with that.  I guess we should finish with that too.
