An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Refuge of Fear

(Proverbs 14:26 KJV)  In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

The second benefit in this verse is “refuge” (4268).  Our confidence is not in always winning.  I know we win in the end but that does not mean every day is filled with progress.  Because we have the right view of God we can deal with that.  If you win, you don’t need a refuge.  We all seek refuge at times.  In California we don’t need to hide from tornados and I never worry about tsunamis.  I have been known to look for a strong table during an earthquake.

Refuge takes many forms.  Another form of refuge is confidence when our standards are being attacked and we are being belittled.  When you know who will be the villain in the book because one character is portrayed as a Christian, you have confidence because the attack is on God, not you.  Those attacks can come from the church and from family.  We have been warned.

So?  Live in fear.  It can give you confidence.  It can provide refuge.  It can be a joy.
